Specialised dentistry (also known as advanced dentistry) occurs when teeth need to be replaced or when badly damaged teeth need to be repaired and a filling (conservative dentistry) would not be adequate.
Authorisation is required for some treatment before treatment starts.
Specialised dentistry includes the following treatments:
- Partial chrome cobalt frame dentures
- Crowns & bridgework (*Pre-authorisation required)
- Orthodontics (*Pre-authorisation required)
- Periodontics (*Pre-authorisation required)
- Maxillo-facial surgery (*Pre-authorisation required)
- Oral pathology (*Pre-authorisation required)
Please refer to the SAMWUMED dental benefit table below for detail on how specialised dentistry benefits are covered per option.
-
Certain dental procedures (e.g. removal of impacted wisdom teeth or extensive dental treatment for young children) might require moderate/deep sedation at your dentist or even general anaesthetics (GA) in hospital.
Authorisation is required before treatment.
Please refer to the SAMWUMED dental benefit table below for detail on how this benefit is covered per option.
